Sweet Sixteen...

It was supposed to be a topsy turvy.  After coming home and being a bit disappointed in the final outcome of the cake, I went over it all again and figured out exactly what I did wrong.  It was such a silly mistake.  OH WELL!!! Live and learn.  I hope Mason had a fabulous Sweet Sixteen just the same...Love you, Mason!!!

Kasey's Wedding

Kasey and her mom, Traci asked me to make her wedding cake and the grooms cake.  I was VERY apprehensive about doing it.  I had never made a wedding cake and this family and the soon to be newly weds are so precious that it would have killed me if it didn't turn out to be just what she wanted...

SO....I showed Wendy the "plans" and we started the process...three weeks ahead of time...flowers, brooches, and buttons were in the making.  All the while...Wendy is making bottle molds for sugar bottle beer bottles.  We did things with this cake that I would never have attempted in the past...

Well...it all worked out.  They were (almost) everything I imagined.  Wendy and I put in some serious hours of work and laughter and it paid off.   Happily ever after......

Spidey

Wyatt is Wendy's nephew and he wanted a Spider Man cake.  This one had some secrets...but it sure turned out cute!!!

A bucket...just a bucket...

Trying some things to get ready for a beer bucket grooms cake.

Luna Belle turns one...

Cheyenne Loves Softball

Cheyenne asked for a softball cookie cake.  I couldn't just frost it to look like a softball...boring.  Instead I decided to build the field including a score board and batters box.  It isn't to scale but on a scale for cuteness??? Clearly it is a 10!!!

The Beach with Bieber

Cheyenne is nine and thinks that Justin Bieber is "it".  So...when it was time to talk birthday cakes, the beach was the plan but Mr. Bieber had to come along.

This cake was a ton of fun to build.  Wendy and I started the decorations a few days in advance and finished them up the say if the build.  There were some failed attempts...a crooked chair, scary feet, a fantastically bad pair if shoes, a fat, flat ball painted with interesting colors....the list goes on and on.  But...we kept working (and playing) and 9 hours later...ta da!!!!  The Beach with Bieber was complete!!!

Caitlyn's Cookie

Oh, how I love the Kaderka girls.  Last year I promised Caitlyn that I would make her a cookie cake and needless to say...it never happened.  SO...sweet sixteen rolls around this year and I am on it.  It couldn't be just an ordinary cookie cake with plain Jane frosting.  It had to be special.   I pulled out the fondant and yummy buttercream frosting and made this little gem just for her.  For a cookie...it is pretty precious, no?

Making flowers...

This never made it on a cake...but I like it...modern-ish and bright.  Just thought I'd share.  : )

Natalie and Nicole...A birthday at the beach.

I will admit from the very start that this precious cake had very little to do with me. My friend, Wendy, was the mastermind behind this masterpiece!

It all started with beach chairs. She made those from popsicle sticks the morning before the real cake making magic began. When the evening came, I visited and together we started making the pieces for the magic.

We worked on shells for the first couple of hours and then moved on to the other decorations. While Wen worked on the two towels (hand painting them...too cute!) and red sunglasses, I started working on a couple pair of flip-flops, the umbrella top, beach ball, surfboard, and let us not forget the log! : ) After many laughs and a rather large mess...I headed home and left the rest of the cake to her!

Wendy hand painted some grass, made some fencing, rolled some rope to go around the bottom of the tiers, crumbled cookies for sand, and just basically made one of the cutest darn cakes I have ever seen! Don't you agree?

Todd turns 39...

Todd turned 39 and it was time that I tried a new recipe for a true German Chocolate cake.  It was soooo easy to make and the frosting was delicious!!!  Even the boys loved it...nuts, coconut, and all!  It was a great finish to a special day.

Misfit

Misfit is a book that my son, Nathan, read. He chose to use it for a project in his 9th grade Pre AP English/Language Arts class. So...being the "Super Mom Wanna Be" that I am...I decided that because a pivotal part in the book is when the main character turns 16, Nathan needed a cake to "round out" his project. (Not to mention the fact that everybody loves cake...even ELA teachers!) So...I made the cake, painted it up to resemble the book cover and there you go! A yummy cake and a good grade...What a great combination!!!

Route 44

One of my favorite people came to visit and we decided to bake!  It certainly isn't one if my best but it sure was fun making it!!!

Harley Davidson Birthday Cake

Head out on the highway!!! Cokie is turning 50 and his precious wife asked me to make a cake for him with a Harley-Davidson theme. This one was a doozie. It took me quite a while to cover the small cake and make it look half way decent. I used a purchased fondant for the first time because I was making it on a school night and had work the next morning...never again! It was horrible. And can I just say the fondant was NOT cheap. It was a brand made by the head guy (you know his name) from Charmed City Cakes. YUCK! It was so difficult to work with and it just looked horrible. I made the best of it and what you see is what you get! It was an odd attempt at recovery. A Harley in the grass??? Oh well...still looks pretty good... : )

Happy Birthday Cokie Brownlee!!!
