Monster Truck Birthday Cake

Gabriel is turning what??? Three years old...it just doesn't seem possible!

In order to celebrate it Gabe style, we had to have a Monster Truck Birthday!!! We knew Grave Digger had to be the center piece so the rest just sort of evolved into what you see here! It isn't one of my best cakes but it was definitely one of the most fun to build! I learned a lot about "making" flames and I will have to give them another shot on a cake in the future...but over all, it turned out ok. And...let's face it...a three year old noticing mistakes? I think not! He LOVED it! I may have gotten a few points toward mother of the year! Happy Birthday Gabriel! I love you tons and lots!!!

Cancer Can "Kiss It!" Cake

Way to go Brad!!! He kicked cancer's butt and there was a celebration to be had! Wendy (my precious friend that I adore...) asked me to make a cake...and I thought to myself..."Self, what would a cake look like if cancer were a cake?" Well, butt cheeks came to mind. So, I created a couple of cheeks, dressed them in a pair of blue jeans, tighty-whities, and hung a white t-shirt (of fondant of course) around the other side of them. Put a tattoo (BH+WH) in a heart on the upper right cheek and a pair of lips on it to finish it off! Not bad!!!

Cowboy Cake

A baby shower...Bronc was coming and I was asked to make a western themed cake. Well, blue jeans, red bandana, and spots from old bossy the cow seemed just about perfect. So...I went for it! I put stitching on the jeans, his name on the tag, and finished it off with a rope around the bottom and a boot on the top that mom could use to decorate his room once he arrived! It turned out pretty darn cute! I think I probably over did it with the buttercream frosting when crumb coating it...I had a few little bulges. Other than that, I was very pleased with the final product!
Yee-haw!!! Welcome to the world Bronc!

Lightsaber for a Jedi Brother

So my brother turned 40, and his son told me I should make a lightsaber cake for him. I threw this together one afternoon.

Jersey with Basketball and Softball

My neice's birthday was the special occasion, and I wanted to make her a cake that fit her personality. She is an athlete who loves softball and basketball, so it seemed only appropriate to use those as a theme.

The basketball was the most challenging. The fondant was stretched over an actual basketball (after it was thoroughly washed!) to imprint the texture with all the dimples. Both ball cakes were baked in different size pyrex mixing bowls.

A lot of color mixing was required to get the various fondant colors just right. I started with mixing a very large batch of white, then worked in the coloring as-needed for the different pieces. A LOT of kneading resulting in sore hands...

She loved the cakes and they tasted great.
Happy Birthday Autumn-Bottom!!!

Gabriel turns two...Mod Monkey Style!

Meet the "Mod Monkey"!!!
This was my second attempt at a fondant cake. My little guy was turning two and I knew it had to be a great cake! He LOVED it. I just chose the plates and things and then used them to match my colors and design! I freehanded the monkey face...not much of an artist but I gotta say...I did a pretty good job on this one! I was almost a little impressed with myself!

This cake would not have been complete without a banana to go with the monkey. It took some convincing that it wasn't real! I made it out of pure fondant and I painted it with gel food coloring. Not bad, right?

It was an awesome day, terrific party, and a pretty fantastic cake!

Next, a cake for my wonderful, precious, softball playin', basketball lovin' Niece! It's gonna have to be great! Can't wait to see what I come up with! Hmmmm...where to begin.....
